The Treatment

A free no obligation consultation

We never treat anyone without first having carried out a full consultation. You have to fully understand the treatment process and we need to know about you and your tattoo. We understand that as an individual you will have your own personal concerns and expectations and we want to be assured that we can fulfil your needs in every way. Our fully trained and experienced consultants will evaluate the best possible treatment procedure that suits you. If either party is concerned about the suitability of a tattoo for removal, a patch test will be offered at a reduced price.

You must be 18 or over to have treatment and not currently pregnant.

Treating the tattoo

All treatment is carried out in our clinical treatment rooms by fully trained and experienced therapists.

The skin is treated by making a series of dots using a needle similar to the way your tattoo was applied. Instead of putting ink into the skin, we use Kataderm®, a mixture of natural products, that persuades the body to expel the pigment through natural processes. Small scabs form on the treated area that fall off over a period of two weeks taking the ink with them.

This removal method is of significant benefit over laser treatment, which breaks down the tattoo ink pigment by the application of intense heat. The burnt pigment is absorbed by the body, putting consequential trauma and strain on the body's excretory systems.

Progressive Treatment 1 Progressive Treatment 2 Progressive Treatment 3

The pictures show a tattoo immediately before treatment; when the skin is still pink after treatment; and finally after the pinkness has gone.

In subsequent treatments the tattoo eventually disappears leaving the natural skin beneath.

Because the body is sensitive and naturally regenerative we need to give the treated areas their own time to recover to normal before working on an adjacent area. This is a minimum of 8 weeks. The process is repeated until the entire tattoo has been treated and removed. On average a tattoo takes between 6 to 8 treatments but this will vary according to size and complexity.

Clients are recommended to exfoliate with a body scrub prior to treatment to prepare the skin.

Cost

Removal is not charged per tattoo but for the time treated. Several small tattoos can be treated at the same time. Appointments are restricted to one hour maximum and treatment is charged per 15 minutes worked. Charges will vary according to location, please contact the individual clinics for information on charges. The time between treatments ensures you have ample time to budget for the next one.

Aftercare

Aftercare of the skin is of vital importance and must be followed rigidly to ensure the pigments are properly expelled, and the area heals properly. It will take some time for the skin to fully regain its normal pigment and to properly accept a tan. In the meantime you will have to look after your skin sensibly and follow the advice given by your therapist.

After Care Advice

  • Keep the gauze dressing on the treated area for up to an hour, or until any bleeding has stopped. (Must be removed after one hour).
  • Do not put a plaster or cover over the treated area after the gauze has been removed.
  • Do not get any water onto the treated area for 48 hours.
  • Do not soak / immerse in water for 14 days. This includes swimming, baths, etc.
  • You can lightly shower the area during this time to keep the area clean and free from infection. Lightly pat the area with a soft towel.
  • The treated areas will look like small craters surrounded by a small swelling.
  • Expect the area to feel sore and look red for the first few days.
  • The treated areas will form small scabs, which will drop off after 3-20 days.
  • The scabs should be left to fall off on their own.
  • DO NOT PICK the scabs as this can cause a scar. Avoid anything rubbing the treated area such as a strap on clothing.
  • Once the scabs have dropped off the skin will look pink and feel sensitive.
  • You should treat the pink area with care and avoid hot baths, sunbathing, sun beds, saunas, excessive sweating (gym / exercise), etc.
  • Once the scabs have dropped off the recommended aftercare can be applied to help soothe and accelerate the healing process.
  • A high factor (SPF 30) sun lotion should be applied to the treated area on top of the aftercare product if sun exposure is expected.

The treated area will take around 7 weeks to regenerate and a repeat treatment will not be carried out before 8-10 weeks have passed. This can be longer depending on your healing time.

The next treatment will not be performed until the previously treated areas are no longer pink.

(The above aftercare advice and healing times apply to a person in good health. A person not in good health or with a comprised immune system may experience a longer healing time)
